Private Advisory
Human judgment in consequential situations.
Some decisions are technically complex. Others become difficult because the technical problem is entangled with personality, relationships, power, uncertainty, identity or competing interests.
VIDALA provides confidential psychological and behavioral-science advisory to founders, senior executives, family enterprises, family offices and private principals navigating consequential decisions and periods of change.
The engagement is defined by the problem at hand.
Decision & judgment.
Complex decisions are rarely made by abstract rational agents. Attention, emotion, incentives, identity, relationships, uncertainty and cognitive bias all shape what can be seen and what is easy to miss.
The work can provide an independent setting in which assumptions are examined, competing interpretations are separated, and the human factors surrounding a decision are made more explicit.
Leadership & human dynamics.
Strategy can be sound while the relationships required to execute it are not. Advisory work may focus on founder or partner dynamics, senior-team relationships, conflict, negotiation, role transitions, psychological sustainability, or recurring interpersonal patterns that distort otherwise good judgment.
Family enterprise, succession & transition.
Ownership, succession, wealth, responsibility and identity can become inseparable. The work may concern generational transition, family roles, governance conversations, competing loyalties, retirement or exit, or the psychological consequences of substantial change.
Altered states, psychedelic science & integration.
Psychedelics have reopened serious questions about consciousness, psychological flexibility, creativity, meaning and change. They have also generated considerable exaggeration.
For advisory clients, the work may involve thinking through experiences already had, evaluating ideas or decisions emerging from altered states, or considering how unusual experiences should—and should not—inform consequential choices.
Insight is not the same as judgment.
Altered states can generate novel associations and experiences of unusual significance. They can also increase confidence in ideas that deserve considerably more scrutiny. The useful question is often not whether an experience was “real,” but what, if anything, follows from it.
The emphasis is not on producing extraordinary states. It is on evaluating what, if anything, deserves to survive them.
Advisor to the advisor.
Lawyers, investment professionals, family-office executives and other trusted advisors sometimes encounter problems in which the technical recommendation is clear but the human system around it is not. Consultation can focus on understanding those dynamics without displacing the advisor's own expertise or mandate.
Distinct from clinical treatment.
Private Advisory is not management consulting, investment advice or psychotherapy by another name. Scope, role and boundaries are established at the outset. If a request is better understood as clinical care, that distinction is addressed explicitly and applicable professional and jurisdictional requirements govern the work.
Engagements may be individual, project-based, organizational or ongoing by private retainer, depending on the question and appropriate scope.
