Privacy & confidentiality

Last updated 22 August 2026

Privacy is the first commitment of this practice, so it is set out plainly here rather than buried in legal language. This page covers the website. Clinical confidentiality — what is protected once you become a client, and the narrow legal exceptions to it — is covered separately in the consent agreement you receive before a first session.

Person responsible for the protection of personal information: Michael Benibgui, PhD. Written enquiries may be sent through the correspondence form.

What this website collects

The site itself sets no advertising or analytics cookies and runs no third-party tracking scripts. Nothing is collected when you simply read these pages beyond the standard server logs kept by the hosting provider.

Information is collected only when you choose to submit a form:

Neither form asks for a date of birth, a home address, or identity documents. Please keep detailed clinical or health information out of both forms; there is a secure clinical portal for that, provided once contact is established.

Why it is collected

Solely to respond to your inquiry, to confirm whether the practice can lawfully work with you, and to arrange a first conversation. Form submissions are never used for marketing, never sold, and never shared with third parties for their own purposes.

Where it is held, and by whom

Website form submissions are processed and stored by the site's hosting provider (Netlify), on servers located in the United States, and are then read by Dr. Benibgui. Domain and email routing are handled by Cloudflare. Email is delivered to a mailbox operated by Google. Each of these providers has technical access to data passing through its systems in the ordinary course of operating it.

This means that information you submit through this website leaves Quebec and Canada. If you would prefer not to transmit information outside Canada, please say so in a brief note and an alternative can be arranged.

Clinical records, once you become a client, are held separately from this website in a dedicated clinical system, under the record-keeping rules of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec and the New York State Education Department.

How long it is kept

Inquiries that do not lead to an engagement are deleted within twelve months. Where an engagement follows, the inquiry is folded into the clinical record and retained for the period required by professional regulation.

Your rights

Under Quebec's Law 25 and comparable legislation elsewhere, you may request access to the personal information held about you, ask that it be corrected, ask that it be deleted where the law permits, and withdraw a consent you previously gave. Requests are answered within thirty days. If you are not satisfied with the response, you may bring a complaint to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.

Security, honestly stated

Everything on this site is served over an encrypted connection, forms are protected against automated abuse, and access to submissions is limited to Dr. Benibgui. No website, however, can promise perfect security, and this one does not. That is precisely why the forms are kept short and why sensitive detail belongs in the clinical portal rather than here.

Changes

If this page changes materially, the date above changes with it.
